Personal Stress Solutions: Our History

The Stress Navigator Workshop is widely used in clinical and corporate settings in the U.S. and abroad. It has been used for over twelve years by thousands of people to reduce stress and raise their quality of life.

BellSouth, IBM, Gillette, the U.S. State Department, and the U.S. Forestry Service are only a few of the companies and agencies that have worked with Stress Directions to benefit their employees and identify their patterns and costs of organizational stress.

The Stress Navigator Workshop and Organization Stress Profile are based on research conducted by company founders Drs. Lyle H. Miller and Alma Dell Smith, as well as their clinical treatment experience with stress management and the treatment of stress-related physical and mental symptoms and complaints.

During the 1990s, our paper-based psychometric questionnaire (originally named the Stress Audit) emerged to become the online expert system that includes the Stress Navigator Workshop and the Organization Stress Profile. We created the interactive workshop and re-named our offerings to reflect our ability to leverage the real-time power of the internet and corporate intranets to further our comprehensive effort towards on-going wellness and knowledge opportunities for people living and working in stressful times.

The stress knowledge we provide manifests itself in four ways:

1. The testing instrument, the Personal Stress Navigator
2. An expert system generated Interpretive Report
3. An Organization Stress Profile
4. Consultation services to lower stress costs and create higher quality work

Ours is the only consumer stress healthcare product that’s based on a research-driven, clinically tested model. The Biobehavioral Model meets the highest scientific and medical standards. Writings about the model are integrated into stress materials produced by the American Psychological Association, as well as the American Management Association.
