This questionnaire takes a comprehensive look at all of the stress caused by the demands and pressures of your everyday life.
In fact, its such a comprehensive picture that simply answering the questions has been shown to significantly reduce stress.
The 264-item Personal Stress Navigator consists of three sections that measure:
- Susceptibility to Stress: a single scale consisting of 21 items sampling health behaviors, lifestyle issues, and coping resources (social, financial and spiritual).
- Sources of Stress: six scales measuring job stress (45 items), family stress (35 items), personal stress (25 items), social stress (21 items), environmental stress (21 items), and financial stress (16 items)
- Symptoms of Stress: seven scales sampling the most commonly occurring stress symptoms within a given physiological subsystem, including: muscular (10 items), parasympathetic nervous system (10 items), sympathetic nervous system (10 items), emotional system (10 items), cognitive system (10 items), endocrine system (10 items), and immune system (10 items).
The questionnaire works because its based on a scientifically sound Biobehavioral Model of Stress that examines stress from three separate, but related, viewpoints: susceptibility, situational demands and pressures, and symptoms. The model states that stress is an additive and cumulative process and that stress is in large part subjective in nature.
The Personal Stress Navigator questionnaire translates the model into psychometrically sound scales that provide prescriptive, diagnostic formulations of individual or organizational stress.
